Halfway

I am officially halfway through my pregnancy! I was 20 weeks yesterday, and today I have an estimated 139 days to go. Baby J will be here before we know it. I'll have to post another view from the side soon--I'm starting to look a little more pregnant. I think I'll wait until the flu is gone though!

Delirium

My pregnancy dreams are typically bold, and though they may be strange, they usually make some sort of strange sense. The dreams I've had since I've had the flu are way closer to being delusions than anything I have ever experienced. I have thought some of of the strangest things in the past few days. Here are some tales:
Monday: I fall asleep on the couch, and Jon, not realizing I was asleep, says something to me. His voice wakes me up, and I say something like, "I think I heard you, were you talking about chips?" I ask him this because in my mind we were eating tortilla chips, and he gave me a really big one that was shaped like the number seven. In reality, he wasn't even close to me and we weren't eating.
Monday night: I had watched "Jon and Kate Plus 8" during the day. The show is about a couple with a set of twins and a set of sextuplets. Throughout the night I kept thinking, "I'm excited to be pregnant, but I already have 6 kids."
Tuesday night: We had watched "Arrested Development," a show about a family whose father gets arrested and the older brother tries to keep the family company and the family together through the court cases that ensue. I was lying in bed last night and thought, "But I'm in my pajamas, I need to put on a skirt for court," thinking I was another sibling in the family and would have to testify. In "Arrested Developement" the siblings are always fighting over control of the company and its purse, and this led me to think this morning, "I'm just trying to breathe through my nose, not sign an accord." I think I thought I was telling the other kids I was not a threat to the company, I just had the flu.

I'll continue to update as the delirium continues.

Influenza

When I started to feel feverish Sunday evening, I didn't even consider that I had the flu. I had a flu shot. And even though I had seen the story on the news about all the flu strains that weren't covered in this year's vaccine, I thought, "No, not me."

Wrong. I have the flu. Achy, stopped up, fever, icky, nasty flu. The doctor put a tiny Q-tip thingy up my nose to confirm her diagnoses. The first bad news was that Tamiflu, the new drug that shortens the duration of the flu, has not had all the trials it needs for her to confidently prescribe it to me as a pregnant lady. Thus, I can take Tylenol for my fever and anything DM (Robitussum, Mussenex, etc) for my snot/cough issues, but that's about it.

The second bad news is that I shouldn't plan on returning to work to work this week. This is not good, you see, because I am a teacher. The work we leave the children while we are away is designed to keep them busy. While it is not entirely worthless, I use the time I am out to leave more culturally enriching readings rather than the language focus stuff we typically spend time on. However, when I get back, I usually find a pile of half-done, busy work that is impossible to grade and hard to integrate into where we left off in our other studies. Plus, missing a week for me, means more than 600 papers will be waiting when I return. Yuck.

Just a few things

Before we go to bed, I have a few things.
1. We really like Terry's Deli in Kernersville. The food is great, and we eat there once a week so we're pretty much experts by now.

2. My circumference grows daily, and I find this exciting.

3. Chrunkle and AAAshley have put down a deposit on their first home! We are so excited for them as they move toward being real estate moguls. We look forward to seeing little Jude toddling around their living room.

oh, and I think the baby's name is going to be Jude. (that was number 4). Yep, Jude, as in, "Hey."
